New Greece 2013/2014 Nike Jerseys

With Greece's economic crisis hovering like a cloud over Greek football, it was always a tad strange to have the national team sponsored by a German company, Adidas. However, that has changed in 2013 with the announcement that 'The Pirate Ship' moving forward will be wearing Nike uniforms. Of course, we all know Nike is the Greek word for victory. Regardless, take a look at the new uniforms that the national team will wear in their critical World Cup Qualifying match away to Lithuania on June 7th. Another interesting fact is that each jersey is made from 8 recycled plastic models.

Euro 2012 - Quarterfinal #2 (Germany v. Greece)

What do you prefer? The Austerity Cup or the Bailout Bowl? I have heard them all and I am sure over the course of the next couple of hours, I will hear plenty more. And to be honest, what a complete waste of time. This is not a referendum on economic policy, but rather a match between two football teams trying to advance to the semi-final of Euro 2012. So let's get on with it.

It is truly marvelous what you discover on the internet when you are doing research for a football match. Below is a video of the classic Monty Python skit showcasing a football match between German and Greek philosophers. Enjoy.

Euro 2012 Fearless Predictions - Day 9

Still on the coast of Maryland, enjoying crab, crawfish, beers and good friends, so we have to keep this fearless prediction fairly short, but you know I will be watching my beloved Greeks battle the Russians. And really did you think I wouldn't back my boys to beat Russia and get to the last 8.

Euro 2012 Fearless Predictions - Day 5

With the first round of games in the books, the second game for each team is probably the most vital as the groups begin to see some separation between the haves and havenots. Group A takes center stage today as the hosts Poland renew hostilities against Russia while Greece takes on the Czech Republic.

Thus was born PBP's 'Fearless Predictions.' Fearless in a sense that they are usually based on emotion, a limited lack of footballing knowledge and pure dumb luck. Let's begin with Day 1.

Pantsing Soccer Players

During this past weekend's Athenian derby between Olympiakos and my beloved AEK Athens, one of the more bizarre spectacles occurred on the pitch.

Corruption In Greek Football . . . Are You Really Surprised?

Congratulations are in order to my fellow countrymen from Greece. Not only have we succeeded in becoming the laughing stock of the financial world due to our inability to cover our financial obligations, but we have decided to mix in a little corruption on the athletic side as well. However, many Greeks will argue it is not called corruption unless you have been caught. Well, it looks like someone got caught.

Greece v. Canada - The Preview

Tomorrow morning is my cultural armageddon, no doubt about it. For the first time in my adulthood, my country of heritage will be playing my country of residence and citizenship in an international friendly. The match is taking place in Larissa, which is situated between Thessaloníki and Athens. Both teams will use the friendly as a means to prepare for more significant matches in the future, for Canada the Gold Cup tournament in the summer, and for Greece the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers. I would expect plenty of substitutions to be made and various formations to be tried and tested. For a full preview of the match from a Greek persepective, join us after the jump. If you are interested in the Canadian perspective reagrding the match, be sure to visit the fellas at Canadian Soccer News for their analysis. Also, be sure to check this site tomorrow at 9:30 a.m EST for a live chat, it should be fun.

Greek Fans . . . Simply The Best

Below is a video taken from yesterday's Barcelona - Panathinaikos Champions League match. Barca routed the Greeks 3-0, eliminating the Greek champions from any European competition. The video highlights just how crazy Greek fans are and what they really think of Lionel Messi. Really, what's the point and is that how you treat the World Player of the Year. (Also the title of this post, sarcasm kids . . . we need to grow up)

Post Red Card Insanity

During a soccer tournament in Karpathos, Greece, a player was given his second yellow after what he thought was a dive by an opponent-- a player who had scored twice already in the game. So what does he do next? He doesn't want to waste his red card on what he thought was a dive, so he viciously-- there's really no other word for it-- attacked the player, punching him in the head, then delivering a classic De Niro kick to the ribs as he rolled on the ground in apparently distress. Craziness.
