Toronto FC Acquire Nathan Sturgis

Toronto FC have announced the acquisition of Nathan Sturgis from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for a first round draft pick, the 8th overall draft pick. Sturgis was acquired in the expansion draft by Vancouver from the Seattle Sounders who left him unprotected.

This is the second time that Sturgis has been left unprotected in the expansion draft as he was selected by Seattle in the 2008 expansion draft. In my opinion, this is a high price to pay for a player who has already been with four other franchises and has been left unprotected in two expansion drafts. Furthermore, based on some early reports the MLS SuperDraft will be extremely deep and talented and parting with the 8th overall pick might be a tad much much for Sturgis. I would have rather kept the pick and taken a flyer on a college prospect. Hell, I hope I am wrong though.
