Euro 2012 Fearless Predictions - Day 2

Whoa, I think I barely survived Day 1 at the Euro. This is the beauty of this tournament, you honestly have no idea what to expect. So let's just jump right into Day 2.

Day 2

Netherlands - Denmark

The 'Group of Death' takes center stage on Day 2 at Euro 2012 with the opening match being between the Dutch and the Danes. The abundance of attacking talent for the Dutch will make this a very difficult match for Denmark.

Holland will look to attack Denmark with pace and width utilizing the strengths of Arjen Robben, Ibrahim Affelay and Wesley Sneijder. Up front Robin van Persie is entering the tournament in scintillating form after leading the English Premier League in scoring. Oh, and just for kicks Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the Bundesliga's leading scorer, is on the bench.

The Danes, on the other hand, are a difficult out. We have to remember that they finished ahead of Portugal in the qualifying stage. So in reality we should discount Denmark at our own peril. This will be a tighter game that what is probably expected but at the end of the day, the Dutch have too much attacking quality.

Netherlands - Denmark (2-1)

Germany - Portugal

Not that bad a match-up for the second day of Euro 2012.

Germany are the youngest team at the tournament but they are probably the most talented. With Podolski, Ozil and Muller attacking through the midfield the Germans will be extremely difficult to stop. Compounding that problem is the defensive midfield duo of Khedira and Schweinsteiger who clean up any mess in front of the back four.

Portugal are your typical underachievers at major footballing competitions. Their best chance at football immortality was in 2004 on home soil, but we all know how that ended up . . . amazingly. Cristiano Ronaldo is the key man for the Portuguese. However, he does not have quite the same supporting cast as he does in Real Madrid. He will need to defend as well as attack for Portugal to be successful.

As for this titanic match between Germany and Portugal, it is hard to look past the Germans who will comfortable win by two goals or more.

Germany - Portugal (3-0)

OVERALL RECORD

1-1
