Fearless Predictions - Women's World Cup - Day 1

Regardless of gender there is nothing more exciting than the opening day of a World Cup. Months of preparation have been building for these moments, where players can become legends and teams can become champions. Wow, if this post could get any more cliche we might as well hire James Earl Jones to provide the voice over. So, why not have some time for our world famous fearless predictions. As always enjoy the matches and remember PBP are not responsible for your gambling wins and losses, although if you do win, we will gladly take a beverage or two. Henrick's gin is always a good start.

Day 1

Nigeria - France

Nigeria and France both open the World Cup in Sinsheim at the Rhein-Neckar Arena, although the match is not the official opening match of the World Cup, as that honor goes to Germany against Canada. So similarly to the salad before the steak, Nigeria and France will hopefully get us excited for the main event later in the day.  One can expect the Nigerians to attack with speed down the flanks and grab their first victory at the World Cup since 1999 when they surprisingly advanced to the quarterfinals. On the other hand the French will look to minimize the Nigerian speed with a controlled short passing game plan focused on possession. Taking a page from the last time these two teams played in international play, at the U20 World Cup, let's go with goals and excitement.

Nigeria - France (2-3)

Germany - Canada

With an estimated 73,000 fans packing Berlin's Olympic Stadium there should be quite the atmosphere for the official opening match of the World Cup between Germany and Canada. Germany have all the pressure on them as they are the two-time defending champions and opening the tournament on home soil. Canada, on the other hand, should approach this game with nothing to lose. The situation is eerily similar to Euro 2004, yes I am going to bring up my country's moment of glory, when Greece shocked Portugal 2-1 in the opening match setting the stage for a miraculous road to the title for the 'Pirate Ship.' I promise this will be the last time I bring up Greece and Euro 2004. Thank you! Anyways, I just can not see Germany losing this match yet I fully expect Canada to give a very valiant effort.

Germany - Canada (2-1)
