Fearless Predictions - Women's World Cup - Day 12

After the shocking elimination of Germany yesterday at the World Cup, honestly, anything can happen during the knockout stage. France bounced back from a goal down to beat England in penalties to win the earlier quarterfinal match. So what will happen today?

Daniela and Marta - Semi Final USA v Brazil - Women's World Cup 2007

Day 12

Sweden - Australia

Both Sweden and Australia play an attacking style of football and it would not surprise me in the least if the match has a couple goals. Sweden are slightly favored based on their victory against the United States, while Australia gave Brazil all it could handle in its group match. At the end of the day I am going with Sweden to win by two goals.

Sweden - Australia (4-2)

Brazil - United States

The final disguised as a quarterfinal pits the two best teams remaining in the tournament with the elimination of Germany. The US have been very poor at the right and left back positions and it would not surprise me if Brazil attacks the US with speeds from the flanks. Furthermore, the back four for the United States, from this seat on the couch, look rather slow. However, physicality and mentality are the two key attributes that the US has in spades over the Brazilians. Remember Hope Solo has not allowed a goal to Brazil in their four previous matches. She was not in goal at the last World Cup where the US lost 4-0. This is will be a tight affair, but I believe Brazil will grab the victory by a solitary goal.

Brazil - United States (2-1)

Fearless Predictions
17-9
