Fearless Predictions - Women's World Cup - Day 3

We knew that perfection would not last throughout the entire Women's World Cup, but are we really surprised that it is the British that failed to live up to expectations. It seems like an almost annual right of summer, a disappointing British national team, but regardless it is a new day, and thus a new day of fearless predictions.

Day 3

Colombia - Sweden

To put it bluntly Sweden should dominate this game. We might actually have our first multi-goal margin of victory as the Colombians will be no match for Sweden. Yet, as with all things on the world's stage it will still be a tight and nervy affair. We must consider that Colombia's nucleus is a young squad that reached the semi-finals of the U20 World Cup in 2010, while the Swedes have been struggling in their warm-up matches and are trying to integrate youth and pace into the squad. However, at the end of the day I am going with the ladies from Scandinavia.

Colombia - Sweden (1-3)

United States - North Korea

Since the 1999 World Cup you might as well pencil in a group match between the United States and North Korea. While the Americans did win the first two games in the series, North Korea did well at the 2007 World Cup with a 2-2 draw. Entering this tournament, the Americans, even though they are the #1 ranked team according to FIFA, they are flying under the radar. Many pundits, and I am not one of them as I have not been given pundit status, see them as rank outsiders behind Germany and Brazil for the title. However, the spine of this team still won the 2008 Olympic gold medal and recently romped through the Algrave Cup, a pre-tournament friendly competition. On the other hand the North Koreans will rely on Asian Player of the Year, Jo Yun-Mi, to lead the charge against the Americans. At the end of the day, the Americans will be too strong.

United States - North Korea (4-2)

Fearless Predictions
3-1
